The human race in Vietnam has been proved by archaeological excavations to have existed since the Paleolithic Age (2.58 million years ago). The first state to be established in the history of Vietnam is the Hồng Bàng dynasty of the Hùng kings and was first established in 2879 BC. In 257 BC the last Hùng king was concored by by Thục Phán. The Chinese general named Zhao Tuo let the Vietnamese into an area of China that is now northern Vietnam. That area is still half-controlled by China to this day. In the 1500s, Portuguese people started building steles to mark their pressence. they weren't intrested in the land; they were more interested in the chinese and Japan land. After they settled, they started making successful trading routes.
Fastforward to 1941, when the First Indochina War happened. This war was fougtht over an anti-colonial struggle for liberation fought by the Việt Minh against Imperial France, and was a Vietnamese victory. Then, in 1953 to 1956, the Vietnam war happened. The Vietnam war was a war fought over north vietnam. The war ended when the communists attacked South Vietnamese targets during the 1968 Tết Offensive and failed, making the public oppinion against the war. With the US suffering greater and greater casualty count, the US began withdrawing from ground combat roles in the early 1970s.
The culture of Vietnam is mostly influenced by Chinese culture. Some of the Cultural Artifacts such as Dong Son drums were found throughout Vietnam and this has lead to theoris that Vietnam's culture is ancient Viet. Vetnamese characters are bassed off of Chinese characters since Chinese characters were used for a long time in Vietnamese past. Durring the French colonial period, Latin was introduced to the Vietnamese Alphabet and gave the Vietnamese Alphabet more uniqueness.
